I'm just generally confused

Life is very confusing, don't you think? I'll share my confused rantings with you, just to show you're not alone.

Famous and Fearless?

I'm getting very confused by Famous and Fearless. The title clearly states that you have to be FAMOUS to be on the show, but they seemed to have forgotten that as the contestants include Jenny Frost and Sam (son of Richard) Branson. Erm...who?

Jenny Frost presents Snog, Marry, Avoid?, a programme about natural beauty, but she herself has bleached blonde hair and tattooed eyebrows. She's also known for various Playboy shoots. Natural? I think not!

Sam Branson has a band called Delilah, who played last years V Festival. Now, I tried to have a little listen to Delilah on YouTube, and guess what? I searched for both 'Delilah' and 'Sam Branson', and I found...nothing. A couple of interviews with Sam (obviously meant to be with his dad, as they were about 10 seconds long), but apart from that? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. So he's obviously not that famous either.

Don't get me wrong, there are some genuine celebrities (Charley Boorman, Dame Kelly Holmes, Rufus Hound), but most of them are just former soap 'stars' trying to get back on TV.

I'm sorry, Channel Four, but Famous and Fearless gets the thumbs-down from me. Fail.

Amazing People

Does anyone else have a special person in their life? One that will immediately buck you up if you feel sad, just by thinking of them? One that will never, ever turn against you, that will always be there? I won't say who my one is, but let me tell you, they are the most precious person I've ever known. They are always there, they capture your thoughts, they possess your brain until you can't take it: you have to see them.

Often their entire family is special to you, so much so that they are almost a second family to you. You cry when you have to leave them. Small, subtle things remind you of them: a song (for me it's In My Place by Coldplay), a quote (a stunning Mother Teresa one for me), even a picture (a black and white Audrey Hepburn print here) Sometimes the mere thought of them can bring on unstoppable fits of emotion; I cry sometimes when I think how I can't be near this person all the time.

Please comment if you have another special person.

National Whipped Cream Day!

Happy Whipped Cream Day everyone! I know what you're thinking: Whipped Cream Day? Whaaaaaaat?
Truth be told, I'm thinking the exact same thing. They're very confusing, all these National (Insert Crazy Subject Here) Days, aren't they? Don't get me wrong, I lurve whipped cream, but a day for it? Really?

Anyway, to celebrate this crazy day, I've found some more of the craziest days and weeks around. Take a look:
24-30th January: National Farmhouse Breakfast week.

That's right, now there is a week for muesli. MUESLI. What next?

15-21st February: National Chip Week

Love fast food? Lucky you, now there's a week for the greatest fast food of all time: chips. Nom nom nom!

   1-31st March: National Bed Month

Finally, an entire month for the best invention since the wheel: the bed. Ah, that's better.

1-31st April: The Toddle Waddle

OK, so this month actually has a very credible reason (to raise awareness of meningitis), but I just had to put it there because of the name. So cute!

16-23rd May: British Sandwich Week

Yey! My favourite lunch item now has its very own week! Woop!

OK, that's all I have time for, if you know of any others, please comment!

Sky Sailing

I love Sky Sailing. But sometimes it gets me really, really confused. Are they the same as Owl City? Or are they different? I think I've found the explanation:

The rather lush Adam Young started Sky Sailing in 2006, a year before he started Owl City. The music is mostly piano and acoustic guitar, and sounds more gorgeous than Johnny Depp mixed with Hugh Laurie with a bit of Christian Bale thrown in (ahhhhh)

One album has been produced by Sky Sailing, An Airplane Carried Me To Bed, and it features some pretty awesome songs. My personal favourite is Sailboats (listen to the lyrics and you'll realise why- they mention a rather fabulous actress whom I am a little bit addicted to)
For some reason, Adam didn't released it until 13th July, 2010.

So that is the conundrum of Sky Sailing solved (yey! alliteration!). Give it a listen on YouTube or Spotify or iTunes or whatever. It is fantastic. Fantastic, I tell you!

First Post (or The Beginning of the Confusion)

Hello! I'm Esme and I'm confused. Not like Confused.com, becaused I'm not an advert for them, I'm just generally confused by life and various goings-on. Like, for starters, why is the sky blue? Why is grass green? And why are people so hard to understand? Don't get me wrong, I love people, but why do some insist on being so hard to understand? Take, for example, David Cameron. All those speeches, all those press releases, you would think that I get what on earth he's going on about, but I don't. I am still completely and utterly at a loss as to what he wants me to think.

Some of the hardest people to understand, I find, are classmates, or 'peers' if you're being technical. One minute they absolutely adore you, and they call you stuff like 'babes' and 'hun' and that rubbish. The next, they're talking about you behind your back and laughing when you succeed in a subject or sport. Why? I know people say that they're just jealous, but that leads me to thinking, why are they jealous of me? What is there bto be jealous of? And I'm not being modest, I am just generally very, very confused. As this blog will suggest.

Through this blog, I'll post stuff about my general confusion, but also stuff that I'm not confused about, like music that I like or things going on in the world that actually make sense.

Happy New Year and Happy Confusion! (wait, does that even make sense? Happy Confusion? Can confusion ever be happy? I'm confused...)
